Who are we?
Established by Jennifer Allen in 2012, Jen’s Piano School is located in Newcastle, NSW. We deliver quality piano lessons with a modern approach. The teachers are trained using the Sykes Piano Method. We are passionate about The Sykes program as it is fun and enjoyable for all ages, our students progress quickly and become well rounded musicians. There are currently 2 teachers based in Adamstown Heights, with a third teacher commencing in 2023, with the location to be advised.
We welcome beginners of all ages, from Little Maestro’s (4-6 yrs old) through to adults. AMEB exams are optional, and there are numerous opportunities for our students to perform throughout the year. Performance is an important part of learning an instrument, it develops confidence and self-esteem. Our students choose their own songs from any genre for their performances. This makes learning more enjoyable and therefore, encourages more practice!
Our philosophy is that music should be fun. We love seeing our students happy faces when they achieve their goals doing something they love!
The Teachers
Jennifer Allen
teaches in Newcastle
Jen began learning piano at the age of 7. Classically trained, she completed AMEB exams up to Grade 6, and achieved high distinctions in all her Theory exams up to Grade 3. She met Julia Sykes as an adult in 2005, at a piano fair in Perth. She was intrigued by the Sykes modern and fun approach to learning piano, so decided to have some lessons to broaden her musical ability within other genres. Before long she enrolled in the Sykes Piano training and began teaching at Julia’s music school. After moving to Newcastle in 2012, Jen now runs her own piano school and continues to teach The Sykes Piano program to her students. She also continues learning via online lessons with Julia, and is currently studying AMEB Grade 7 practical and Grade 4 Theory. Jen has completed Sykes Piano teacher training up to Grade 3.

Charlotte Allen
teaches in Newcastle
Charlotte began learning piano with Jen at the age of 3. She was introduced to the Sykes Piano program very early on as a Little Maestro. She has completed AMEB exams up to Grade 3, achieving honors and high distinctions in all grades. She is now learning via online lessons with Julia, studying Grade 4 practical and Grade 2 Theory. Charlotte started teaching piano in 2020. She is currently being trained as a Sykes Piano Teacher, teaching Little Maestro’s through to Preliminary Grade.

We're hiring!
Jen's School of Piano is currently looking for a piano teacher to join their studio in Newcastle.
We are looking for teachers that believe strongly in the Sykes Music philosophy and would love to do Sykes Piano teacher training.
The successful applicant should ideally have completed a minimum of Grade 6 piano with AMEB (or similar), however lower grades may also be considered. Experience would be preferred but is not essential as training will be provided.
